Making the Font

In my digipack pitch you heard me mention that I am going to make my own font. Well since this the only idea that is certain for me I started on making my font. My idea was to do a floral font and to take pictures of flowers and import them into Photoshop, but I soon released the difficulty in doing this, so I thought simpler. First I looked if there were existing floral fonts on the computer – but there wasn’t. Then I looked for ones that I could download, but there wasn’t any nice ones. Then I looked through Google images of floral fonts to see if there would be something that I would like and it would be easy to make. Then I came across this:

This font really captured my idea, and I really wanted to recreate it, so I spent TIME drawing this:

This is my artist name and the font I want to use for my digipack. I will scan it onto the computer, go over it in Illustrator, add some colour and use it on my ancillary pack.

But I still haven't finished making the font. I now need to obviously finish going over it in the pen tool in Illustrator, but I also need to add colouring and do a outline.

Ideas that inspired me........

Here are few digipack that really inspired me. And is what i want to achieve in my own making of the digipack. There all very similar in terms of my theme.

Making of Digipack.... (photoshop process)....

Last lesson we started on our digipacks. Below are screen shots of the making of my digipack. I started off with the back panal. Reason why i did not start of with the front because i did not take any pictures of her but will do by next lesson, so i thought i might start with the basics as we do not have much time to ruin......

So first it took me forever to get that 'sepia' colour for my background, and i wanted a vintage kind of background. So what i did was get a picture from google of that sort of theme. I then opened it up on photoshop. I cropped out a section from the picture above.  And below is the Cropped bit of the picture, made it into a nice background :D !!

This is the cropped out section from the picture as you can see and i simply just pasted as a background which i wanted. The vintage sepia kind of look. Very quite happy with it so far. 

So then I added the track listing. Using the text tool on 'Photoshop'. I placed them in a nice fancy looking order. I was unsure about the font, but i think its nice and simple, and readable. 

Then i added the bar Code. as you can see from the bottom.

Below is a picture i took of my mock-up of my advertsiment.

So this is quite rubbish my drawing but just an idea, and i Know how to do it. So again i am going to have the same picture of her from the front cover. I am Going to have floral background. Add the acural picture of the digipack. and all the information next to it. Might have the clouds faded at the background. Nice fancy girly font.

PRODUCTION

ACTUALLY STARTING OUR DIGIPAKS: 

This is the first time i went on Photoshop with my real pictures to make our real ancillary products. at first i was so lost, but as soon as i got it open i knew what to do. I first opened up the template and i had the pictures that o took over the weekend at the ready and i knew exactly what i was going to do and which picture i was going to use for the front panel of my digipak. At first i was going to leave the picture as the original and just crop it down to the part that i need, but then one of my friends was using iphoto and it looked really good so i decided to take my picture and edit it so that it looks better. 

At first i just went through all the different effects
and none of the other effects really suited my theme,
then i came across 'boost colour' i tired it and it looked
really good; it basically enhanced all the colours in the
picture and made  it more vibrant and professional. As
you can see from the first picture to this picture it is a
big improvement   

I then went on to the adjust button; this is where
you can check the levels of  exposure, contrast, saturation.
I played around with it for a while and saw if it looked nice
or not, i ended up just moving it a little to the left or right, i
didn't move it too much because i didn't want to drastically
change the picture. You could also choose choose if you 
wanted to put a tint on your picture; I was sceptic about this
but i tried it and i didn't like it, until i tried a puplish tint and
it looked nice so i put on the tint. i think that the result of 
using this software has made my digipak a lot better.  

I saved the picture and then opened it up in Photoshop and cropped the parts that i didn't want, then placed it on the front panel. After I have put it in I looked at the back and thought ok now to do the back panel. I had taken the picture on the left especially for this panel, so i opened it up and put the picture in its place. However when Rebbecca cam over she said that i shouldn't put a picture of my artist on the back because it is not conventional for the back panel of a digipak to have a picture of the artist on it. This made me really stuck on what to do because I didn't take any pictures of anything else apart from one with my artist in them. 



Afterwards, Rebbecca told me to try and use a plain back ground and work on it; so i tried this. I was trying to do something that would link in with the front panel, i didn't want it to look random. I put a lilac background because of the purple tint that i had added on the front, i then thought what could i add to make it look really nice and would stick with my theme really nicely.... i was stuck for a while but then i remembered that stamp tool that i had used on my practise digipak of Dan; I remembered there being leafs. so i tried someleafs, it looked ok, so i added different sizes and a variety of matching colours.  



PLANNING

On Saturday the 10th I went to Renne's house to do a photo shoot in her area, these are the pictures that I was taking to use on my digipak. 

when I was at her house she showed me her clothes that she has and I picked different outfits and she tried it on; we evaluated if they looked nice and if they went with the way i wanted take the pictures.

When i went home and when i was in my media lesson i narrowed it down to to 4 pictures from all the pictures that i took, these are the ones i wanted to use on my digipack. The photos that I plan to use on my Digipak are these:

This is the picture for the front panel of my digipak, I have chosen this because it was an inspired shot from a previous ancillary product; I think that this picture is really nice because you can see the artist face and her features; this ensures that you can familiarise yourself with the artist. The leaves give it a sense of season and connotes nature, also the colour of the leaves corresponds with a part of the album title 'golden frames'. I am going to crop this picture and turn it upside down because i wanted the audience to see her face properly, and i have also looked at it the other way round and it looks really nice.  

This is the picture I want to use for the back panel of my digipak. i want to put the track listing on the left side and obviously the icons at the bottom. i think that this would make a good back panel because you can clearly see the artist and the track listing is going to be visible and readable. i think that this goes in with my theme of nature because she is near grass, trees, bushes etc. I want to put the track listing in one of the colours that i chose for my colour scheme. this will ensure that the whole digipack ties in together because the theme will run through out the digipak. 

This is the montage that i want to use for my CD housing, i have put this together from all the faces in our music video. i went onto Vimeo and screen grabbed their faces and made them all the same size and lined them up all together in the size of the digipak CD housing panel. I think that this panel works well for a CD housing because it creates character inside the digipack and also it promotes the message of being and individual and to be who you want to be.



This is the picture i want to use for the inside panel of my digipak. I think that this picture is good because it carries on the theme of nature and also it is a full length picture of the artist which means that the consumer gets to see the artist in full. this picture also displays the qualities that the artist posses e.g. she likes ducks, the river, is a very nature person, like the outdoors. All these connotations are really important for the consumer because the reason why they buy a digipak instead of a dual case is because it is more personal. they get to find out more about the artist and they get a little more for their money.  



PLANNING

Where my ideas have come from: 


This is a Digipak cover by Sara Bareilles, I have been inspired by her cover because it really portrays that the artist is very Innocent and feminine i.e with the flowers and the little black dress. I really like that angle if this shot how ever i didn't think that having my artist upside down for her debut album was a smart move.. so i turned the picture upside down to see how it would look and it worked really well. I decided that i want to take a picture like this and have something similar to the flowers like she has on her album. i thought what could i use to make this look nice and I remembered that there are lots of leaves that have fallen of the trees which I could use. 




The inspiration for the back panel came from the music video and i thought that it would be really nice to incorporate the music video with the Digipak and also there were some really good shot that would fit really nicely as the picture for the back panel. My first idea was a shot right at the end of the music video where she is standing up on a hill with winding stair case coming down and I could put the track list of one side, however that didn't work out because we didn't manage to get to the location to take the picture. There was another shot in the music video that i really liked; it is of her sitting on a log and is a mid shot. I thought that this would look really nice as a back panel picture; i was thinking of moving the her to the left or right and having a track list on either side. These are the two shots that i was thinking about using;

The inspiration for my inside panel came from a shot taken by Brandi Carlile; she had half a face showing from behind a guitar, i thought that this was a very creative shot and would link well with my artist because she plays guitar and also plays it in the music video, I think that this would a good shot to manipulate so that it goes really nicely with the colour scheme. 

The inspiration for my advert came from a Digipak by Amy MacDonald. The simplicity of this shot is what drew me to it; it is just her holding a guitar. I think that this shot would look really good as a Advert because the picture itself will promote the artist as someone who plays the guitar and is original.
