Ancillary products are things that you get extra with the product that you are buying. A digi-pack is a modern approach to CD packaging. It includes more information about band/artist and adds value instead of just buying the dual case.

What is the function of an ancillary product? There are sevarl reasons why ancillary products are still made; They promote the artist and make the customers feel exclusive and The quality of the hard copy is better. a lot of people still buy and want a hard copy becasue they feel like they are getting an insight into the atrist life with pictures, quotes etc  which they would get anywhere else; this also makes them feel like thery are getting more for thier money. The music industry also want to tap into the REAL FAN BASE, the real fans will buy anything that has aditional background on the artist, they are the ones who support the artist by actually buying the cd's and digi-packs. Fans see ancillary products as a novelty , special, something to collect. Ancillary products also promote the brand. The artwork on the ancillary products are important for promoting the artist and the label becasue it defreatioantes the artisrt, espeacially when downloading of the internet; the little picture that comes with the song is really important becasue the consume will want to see what they are buying.



This is an advertisment for a band, Posters are really important becasue they promote the artist and tells the consumers when a new album is out or maybe tour dates if thier going on tour etc.

Why are ancillary products so important for the music industry?  

There are a lot of reasons why the industry wants ancillary products to keep going and whay they want people to buy it more. The obvious reasons are that They will make more money from selling digipacks comppared to downloads. They also need digipacks becasue sooo many people are illegally downlaoding songs which meqns that they are dying out slowly. it is important for them to make the consumers feel connected to the artist becasue if they do they will buy and stay loyal to the atrist. One of the reasons why digipacks are still used despite of cd sales dropping is to try and comabt priacy, also the music industy want you to feel like you are a real fan if you buy the digipacks.
