In today’s lesson we talked about what the function of a music video is. WE had suggestions such as to promote the song, too entertain the viewer, but although a music video does this also, we all concluded that the main function of a music video is to promote the artist. The music video represents the artist – and the more controversial the better the promotion. I have a essay I write about controversy in music used to promote an artist, and in this essay I talked about Madonna – Like a prayer music video. But I can’t find it right now, so when I find it I’ll post it J But here’s a look at the video and may you can conclude your own reasons as to why it was seen as controversial and why it was successful at promoting her until I find my essay.
Music videos, however, were not always used to promote the artist and there image. It was sometimes used to promote the song, this was when the music industry was still able to successfully sale a huge amount of songs.
