To be honest, I never got to complete the lip sync tutorial, but when one main thing I learned from what I did do was that it is definitely more demanding than editing an opening to a thriller.
The lip sync tutorial required us to film a performance of someone singing a song and then edit it, match the singing with the base track on Final Cut Pro. We had to mark repetitive beats in the song. Then in each clip, mark the same time in the song, then match it marks from the song in the base track to the mark in the clip. This was VERY difficult and demanding because you ha to be so precise. Then you had to cut the different clips and produce a video – but my group never got that far.
One weakness was, obviously, not finishing the lip sync tutorial. To overcome this when doing my actually video is to go to workshops and do extra work in lip syncing so when it comes to have to lip sync my final video I won’t be behind, and we be able to do so. Another weakness was that because we didn’t do our takes from starts to finish – instead we would just film at different parts of the song in each clip – it was making it harder to match the lip sync with the base track. This also made the video confusing, when trying to cut different sections together. It was this problem that caused us not to finish the task. So the one major thing I learnt from the tutorial was to ran the takes straight through.
The thing I would take away from it would be to have fun. I say this because when filming the fun your having translates well on camera, and if your having fun then your audience is more likely to enjoy your video and have fun to. And vice versa. So fun is an important factor in determining the success the audience reaction.
