Analysis of 3 Music Videos that have influenced our ideas.

When making a music video many people look at current and old music videos, see what about them works and what doesn’t. With the ones that do work, they look into why and how they work, and how they can, not only incorporated that trait, but also improve it and make it better and something their own. This is what we did.

One video that influenced has influenced out final planning is, Franz Ferdinand – Can’t Stop Feeling.

This inspired us because they have an effective use of editing. They place around the transitions to create fun illusions and make there video more interesting and appealing. This also appealed to us because most emphasis is not on they artists, but instead on the edits of the video, which is an aim we are trying to peruse. There costume and location is really simple and basic, and we plan to use that aspects also when filming for the shots that are going to be heavily edited. It is fast – paced, so it keeps the audience interested and we instead on mirroring that.

Another video was Example – Kickstart, but because I already talked about why it influenced me and how I plan to use similar ideas in a previous blog, I’ll use the example that we previously posted as a group blog – Channel 4’s advert of reality show Seven days.

This is an idea we are thinking about using in our video. I really like they way they did this effect because they spilt the face into many different people, not just the usually 2, 3 or 4, successful challenging and building the idea. This made there advert seem a lot more interesting than if it were used conventionally. I also noticed that when this effect is done it is normally against the same background for each person. However, Channel 4 had different background on each person. As to not let the background over bear the faces, and distract form them, making it look to confused, they simply used drag and pull focus on their faces to direct the audiences interest. This is an edit we realised is going to be essential when filming for this type of editing effect for our music video, because our people will have many different backgrounds.

Lastly, the video Countdown by Beyonce has influenced me.

Throughout this video, it is very much faced paced. There is a fun play around with editing as in spilt screens, mirrored effect, fast motion and green screen. It inspired me to be creative through editing, because in the video although there were no extravagant locations, I barely noticed because I was distracted by the use of editing and face pace.
