Do’s and Don’t of a Music Video

Today in class Rebecca gave us some advice on what and what not to include in our video if we want it be a success. The list went as follows:

Don’ts:
  • ·      Don’t use mobile phones – it looks cheesy and tacky, and deduces the values/quality of your video.
  • ·      Don’t wear hoodies, unless it suits the genre of you group
  • ·      Don’t over act – It gives your video a cheap look.
  • ·      Don’t do narrative flashback in black and white – its to common
  • ·      Don’t use a track that has been on the charts – it will be compared to the original video, and it will be hard t give a fair judgement.

Do’s J :
  • ·      When planning have editing in mind – it will ensure that was can incorporate good techniques in your video
  • ·      Use slow motion
  • ·      Use jump cuts
  • ·      Use a storyboard – avoid complication narratives, it hard to do them successful.
  • ·      Think carefully about the genre – performer and budget dependant
  • ·      Do simplistic lip sinking
  • ·      Location s important
  • ·      Plan your costume – mise-en-scene
  • ·      Have continuity (e.g. same costume)
  • ·      Storyboard every single shot
  • ·      Produce an animation
