State of the music industry in 2012

THE MUSIC INDUSTRY...
The music industry has changed hugely in the last 10 years, there are three areas that have changed over the years; Production, Distribution, Exchange.
PRODUCTION:
(the making of music and recording it to a sufficient standard so that it can be sold)
Production before was when you could only record a song in the recording studio, and it used to be analog sounds. however that has changed and now everything is digital, you don't need a recording studio to record song, people even do them in their bedrooms now,you can record just about anywhere.

DISTRIBUTION:
(how this music gets to people and how they know about it)
Before the music got to people through gigs, CD's, albums, and most people heard it from the radio, TV, or word of mouth. Most of the ways of access to music used to be physical, now people are getting their music free by illegally downloading them. they are all digital copies now, no more CD's. vinyl records etc. people don't need record label or contract to make music. also they way they find out about these have changed, now they are finding it out through social network sites e.g. twitter, my space, Facebook, etc.however some people say that when the artist or the song gets talked about through social networking sites they get free publicity.

Buying physical cds/ albums downloads illegal
EXCHANGE:
(what changes hands between the people who own the music and its audience so that it could be said.) before people paid money for physical copies which made the record companies huge profits, however to the recent changes people have the internet, free digital piracy= and this will mean continues fall in sales.
